Mahmoud Khalil is Free!

We celebrate the victory of the freedom of Mahmoud Khalil, an Algerian activist of Palestinian origin and a key voice in pro-Palestinian student protests, who participated in the Gaza Solidarity Camp last year.

Mahmoud was arrested on March 8, 2025, by agents of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and is in the custody of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in an immigration detention center in Louisiana. This is one of the victories of the community and student movement against the reactionary measures of the Donald Trump administration.

Since Mahmoud's arrest, protests and mobilizations have erupted across the country. A petition demanding Mahmoud's freedom has been launched, with over 3 million people signing it. Further actions such as rallies and sit-ins have been organized by groups like Jewish Voice for Peace, which ran the Trump Tower! This demonstrates the immense power of the democratic campaign to free him, and that the Third Intifada lives on because the Palestinian people's struggle continues beyond the ceasefire in Gaza.

This demonstrates that Trump's policy is failing: he believed that Mahmoud's arrest could halt the movement for Palestine, the movement in the universities, and the massive mobilizations in support of the Palestinian people. Instead, more organized mobilizations are emerging on five continents under the slogan "For a Free Palestine from the River to the Sea!"

At La Marx USA, we celebrate the release of Mahmoud Khalil and demand the freedom of political prisoners around the world. We call for the unity and organizition in a united struggle against Trump and his policies.
